EC Meeting, January 21, 2025

17 out of 18 EC members are in attendance. 

We start by welcoming two new EC members: Dani (AC Community Support) and Cosmin (VP Pubs).

Adriana leads the discussion about renewing Grammarly as a member benefit for 2025 (solar year), with the aim of the EC voting soon on this decision. We find that many people do use it, indicating its value to the community. We decide to vote on continuing it this year, and consider whether there are better tools to switch to. 

Neha shares a reminder that we will be working on setting up a SIGCHI newsletter, led by Naveena, in the first half of 2025. The newsletter will be on the ACM Digital Library, and will be an opportunity to archive and document SIG activities.

Neha and Luigi lead a discussion on EC activities at CHI 2025. We discuss logistics of the various events the EC will host, and support for volunteers in attending and conducting volunteer duties at CHI.   

Matt and Ignacio introduce the bylaws for GROUP and discuss what the evaluation and approval process for bylaws should be. The Conferences Team is aiming to reach out to all conferences to check in about bylaws, and implement a template that can be used for writing bylaws. 

Matt asks the EC to consider what locations we would like to see CHI 28 consider during site selection. EC members emphasize areas where there are growing HCI communities. 

We end with a brief discussion of how we want to update the open call form to accommodate committees’ recruitment needs.
