EC Meeting, Feb 25, 2026

SCF Cosponsorship Request

A conference requested SIGCHI cosponsorship (already co-sponsored by SIGGRAPH). No major concerns were identified, and approval is likely. However, support in budgeting is needed as with all conferences, in order to preserve strong finances.

Future Summit

Plans are underway for a Futures Summit in late 2026 or early 2027, building on the prior Summit. It will likely host ~100 participants over three days, with Paris and Waterloo as potential locations. An open call for organizers will be launched, and topics remain flexible. A final decision on timing and location is expected before the March meeting.

Budget

We discuss budget numbers and find that the SIG is financially healthy. We discuss still wanting to ensure that unnecessary costs are reduced, and Finance and Ops will have a dedicated meeting to considering reducing infrastructure costs where possible. One idea includes evaluating tool usage across conferences and incentivizing adoption by centralizing costs at the EC level.

Conference Relationships

We discuss how to ensure good relationships with conferences, in light of one conference sharing dissatisfaction with SIG policies/processes. We want to ensure that we address concerns and ultimately support conferences' agency and priorities.

Awards

The awards event is confirmed at the Princess Hotel (Wednesday, 6–9pm). Invitations are ready to be sent, with coordination led by Lucia (ACM Liaison) and others. Planning appears on track with no major issues raised.

Town Hall

Each EC member will give a brief update (30–60 seconds) during the Town Hall at CHI26. The goal is to ensure discussion of the range of topics that the community cares about while keeping the session concise and informative.

CHI 2028 Planning

We discuss candidates under consideration for CHI 2028 leadership. The EC must provide feedback to the working group on chair selection. Current structure may include 3 General Chairs and 2–3 Program Chairs. Ensuring local representation is a key concern in finalizing leadership.
