EC Meeting, April 7, 2025

We start with a discussion of how the EC’s coordination with the Global Plaza team at CHI 25 is going, ending with plans to ensure there is publicity of events that the EC is organizing or supporting at CHI. 

Neha provides updates on CHI registration, which is at record highs and may reach capacity of the conference venue. 

Neha shares updates from the open sessions the EC recently held on conferences and contingency planning. There were many attendees, and many who attended an open session for the first time, indicating this is something on everyone’s minds. There was much discussion of hybrid and satellite conferences. SIGCHI Advisory Council will also help continue the conversation. 

Neha, the Conferences Team, and Lucia discuss conferences’ financial well-being. We discuss how to address pain points we’re seeing, including how to lower cost of publication, increase sponsorship, alternate between virtual and in-person, co-locate with other conferences, and increase mentorship in budget creation.
