Open call for chairing CHI 2028 in South Africa

We’re very, very excited to share that CHI 2028 will be in South Africa and the CHI Steering Committee has put forth an open call for the General Chairs and Technical Program Chairs of CHI 2028 (and beyond).

They especially welcome volunteer leaders with experience in cultivating participation from the Global South and South Africa in particular. If this is you, or if you would like to nominate a colleague, please respond to the call by February 16, 2026.

Announcing new SIGCHI VP for Operations

We are delighted to announce our new SIGCHI VP for Operations: Carla Griggio. Learn more about her and her vision on our blog.

We thank Kashyap Todi for contributing in this role from July 2021 to January 2026. If you are curious: in addition to serving as a voting member of the SIGCHI Executive Committee, from our bylaws, the VP Ops attends to the following:

  • Overseeing all operational aspects of SIGCHI’s electronic infrastructure, including: e-mail lists, web sites, and databases

  • Serving as, or designating a volunteer to serve as, SIGCHI’s information director and liaison with ACM’s technical staff

  • Coordinating operational aspects of SIGCHI’s publicity program, outreach activities, and other activities

  • Recruiting and managing volunteers to maintain SIGCHI’s electronic and physical infrastructure

  • Overseeing any committees organized to facilitate operations activities. The membership of these committees is subject to approval by the SIGCHI Executive Committee.

Town Hall on ACM DL Basic/Premium

You are invited to attend our upcoming SIGCHI Town Hall, on January 16th, 2026, where we will discuss the recent changes to the ACM Digital Library—the Basic and Premium versions of the DL—that were launched just prior to the launch of ACM Open on January 1, 2026. This is of high relevance for the ACM publishing community and dialogue is essential to ensuring that we are on the same page and moving forward together. Please join us.
