Peer review at CHI

24 Mar 2026

Please see below a note from Regan Mandryk, Sven Mayer, and Anna Cox, who have been leading a working group of the CHI Steering Committee to rethink peer review. Those of you at our recent Town Hall Preview would have heard them present their plans as they move forward. Please see instructions below to give them feedback now, at CHI, or later!

Since 2024, a working group of the CHI Steering Committee has been working on reimagining peer review. We have held community input sessions, had an online feedback forum, and have met regularly over the last 2 years. We created reports on what other conferences (within SIGCHI and the ACM, but also beyond) have been doing. We looked to other review processes (e.g., grants, faculty search, grad school application, University ranking) for inspiration. We used previous CHI submission data to run simulations. We engaged in role-playing exercises where we enacted different review structures and processes. This all culminated in an in-person meeting in January 2026, where we finalized our proposal for CHI full papers review processes moving forward. We sought input and feedback from various stakeholders and discussed it with the CHI Steering Committee and the SIGCHI Executive Committee.

Our proposal is a 5-point action plan, with interconnected solutions which can be found at this link.

Now, we are reaching out to the larger CHI community for your input and feedback. You may provide feedback in person at CHI 2026 (Wednesday afternoon at 2:15 in the Auditorium), or via this online form.

Best wishes,

Regan, Sven & Anna

Take the SIGCHI membership survey!

19 Mar 2026

Please take our membership survey and help us identify areas where we are doing well, things that we can improve, and where we should develop new initiatives.

SIGCHI strives to create an enriching and supportive environment and we want to make sure the SIGCHI member experience is aligned with this goal. We look forward to your responses and to communicating back the results!

The survey will remain open until April 5, 2026.

SIGCHI Town Hall Preview (March 23, 2026)

16 Mar 2026

Every year, there is a SIGCHI Town Hall at the CHI conference, where we update our members on the state of the SIG, and discuss several issues that are important to our community.

This year, given how much is in flux around us, we want to make space for members to raise questions or concerns in advance. To help facilitate this, we are hosting a virtual Town Hall Preview on Monday, March 23.

All members are welcome to join and participate, and to draw attention to anything they would like to see addressed at the town hall on April 15 in Barcelona. On our end, we will share efforts and initiatives we have been focusing on, and get your input on these as well.
