It is with great sadness that we must inform you that our former CEO and President, Vicki L. Hanson, passed away on January 20. As no doubt many of you know, Vicki gave many, many years of service to our SIG, until she was elected ACM President in 2016. Then from 2018 to 2025, she served as ACM CEO, and no doubt touched every one of our lives, directly or indirectly.

As we remember Vicki and grieve her loss, we invite members of our community—you all—to share a few words of remembrance or condolence. If you feel moved to do so, please send a short message, reflection, or memory of Vicki to sigchi-president@acm.org. We will compile these messages into a community blog post to honor Vicki and reflect the many ways in which her contributions shaped our community. There is no expectation to share—only an open invitation. We are grateful for any care, kindness, and support you would like to extend at this time, in remembrance of Vicki.

We’re very, very excited to share that CHI 2028 will be in South Africa and the CHI Steering Committee has put forth an open call for the General Chairs and Technical Program Chairs of CHI 2028 (and beyond).

They especially welcome volunteer leaders with experience in cultivating participation from the Global South and South Africa in particular. If this is you, or if you would like to nominate a colleague, please respond to the call by February 16, 2026.

We thank Kashyap Todi for contributing in this role from July 2021 to January 2026. If you are curious: in addition to serving as a voting member of the SIGCHI Executive Committee, from our bylaws, the VP Ops attends to the following:

• Overseeing all operational aspects of SIGCHI’s electronic infrastructure, including: e-mail lists, web sites, and databases

• Serving as, or designating a volunteer to serve as, SIGCHI’s information director and liaison with ACM’s technical staff

• Coordinating operational aspects of SIGCHI’s publicity program, outreach activities, and other activities

• Recruiting and managing volunteers to maintain SIGCHI’s electronic and physical infrastructure

• Overseeing any committees organized to facilitate operations activities. The membership of these committees is subject to approval by the SIGCHI Executive Committee.
