CHI 2018 workshop highlight: Bridging HCI communities
Bart Knijnenburg, @usabart
As you may know, ACM SigCHI is not the only community engaging in Human-Computer Interaction research. Amazing work is also being done in the AIS SigHCI community, the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, the IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Society, among others. Each society has their own conferences and meetings, which means that members of these communities do not always cross paths.
The CHI 2018 workshop on Bridging HCI communities endeavors to build a bridge between two of these communities, AIS SIGHCI and ACM SIGCHI. The goal of the workshop is to create a better understanding of common goals and interests, as well as to share potentially different perspectives and priorities, within and across both communities.
Are you a member of more than one HCI community, and interested in bringing your communities together? We encourage you to organize similar workshops! By bridging the various HCI communities, we can increase the impact of the field of HCI and the sustainability of HCI research as a whole.
