A range of exciting opportunities are open to people interested in volunteering some time to SIGCHI, its conferences or publications. How to Volunteer For most volunteer opportunities, you can directly contact the people listed below via e-mail. It would help if when you did so, you provided some preliminary information: Name Contact information (email, phone, fax) Current affiliation or job Professional societies (especially ACM) Description (brief) of relevant interests and experiences You can contact any of the officers mentioned below, or you can contact the Vice Chair for Operations. Reviewing for the CHI Conference The CHI Conference invites members of the HCI community to volunteer as reviewers for several CHI 2003 submission categories. The CHI Reviewer Volunteer Center is where members of the HCI community can volunteer to be reviewers for the next CHI Conference. Various technical program chairs will review the set of volunteers and contact those who are needed. Go to the CHI Reviewer Volunteer Center to volunteer as a reviewer for CHI 2003. Local SIGs SIGCHI has a growing population of local SIGs world-wide, many of which seek volunteers to assist with chapter operations, special services, speaking at technical meetings, etc. Some locations seek volunteers to start a local SIG. Check out the Local SIGs webpage for more information. SIGCHI Bulletin The SIGCHI Bulletin is often looking for volunteers to act as editors or provide other help with SIGCHI's quarterly publication. Contact the Bulletin Editor at chi-Bulletin-Editor@acm.org to see what is currently needed. Mentoring Program Have you been a SIGCHI member for a number of years? Can you remember what it was like when you first joined SIGCHI? Are you interested in helping new members feel more comfortable during their first year as a member? Become a mentor by agreeing to 4 emails and a meeting at the CHI Conference (if you are both attending). Contact: Jean Scholtz jscholtz@acm.org. Domain Task Force Join a new SIGCHI task force that will consider what it means to be an HCI professional in education, healthcare, aerospace, and more. Issues related to supporting domain-specific concerns will be discussed on-line and in-person (during CHI Conferences). Contact: Allison Druin (allisond@acm.org).
