The primary list owner (the first listed in a list review):
REVIEW CHI-EDUCATORS
is the primary point of contact for the list (beside the LISTERV).
The primary list owner receives notices about errors on the list
and mail sent to the "listname-request" mail address:
CHI-Educators-Request@ACM.ORG
Secondary list owners fall into two categories:
- Non-quiet list owners do not receive error notices,
but they do receive mail to the listname-request address.
- Quiet list owners do not receive any errors or administrative mail.
Good candidates for Quiet list owners include alternative addresses
for the primary list owner, an information director, or a listserv
administrator, so that the list can be managed flexibly.
Day-to-day list-ownership can be a virtually no work
for small lists of subscribers with reliable connections.
But when the Errors-to= option is set to OWNER,
the list owner gets all the bounced mail.
The LISTSERV manual has a good discussion about
what to do with bounced mail
and the
semi-automatic deletion feature
helps with persistent errors such as unknown user/host,
but the owner of a large list should still expect to
receive mail for 1-5% transient errors for each message posted.
Mail filtering software
such as
procmail
can help manage the problem.
The primary list owner is not the default editor and/or moderator.
The Editor= and possibly the Moderator= options must be set for this.
Here are the options used to moderate
chi-announcements
* Send= Editor,Hold
* Editor=perlman@turing.acm.org
Submitted articles are sent to the Editor who must respond
to LISTSERV with an OK.
SIGCHI list owners who want to try some LISTSERV features
without bothering an existing list can ask to be added
to the
CHI-Test list.
Since this list is in an unpredictable state,
it is best to direct all such requests to
chi-Test-request@acm.org.
List owners should join the ACM LIST-OWNERS list:
