Development Consortium

Saturday, 22 March

One of the new activities at CHI 97 is the Development Consortium, funded by the ACM/SIGCHI Development Fund. As we look to the future of HCI, one of our goals must be to continue to develop HCI as a field by reaching out to professionals within HCI and related disciplines who usually do not have the opportunity to share their work and their experiences with colleagues at the CHI Conference.

The goal of the Development Consortium for 1997 is to bring together the current CHI community and related groups that are normally unable to participate because of structural-financial-economic reasons, focusing on HCI-related communities from countries with soft currency.

The Consortium will meet in a closed workshop on the Saturday prior to the Conference, and again at the end of the Conference. The Consortium will also present an overview of the work and the situation in the countries concerned, during a conference session.

Doctoral Consortium

Sunday and Monday, 23 and 24 March

The CHI 97 Doctoral Consortium provides an opportunity for Ph.D students to explore their research interests in an interdisciplinary workshop with established researchers in a group setting. The participants receive feedback on current research and guidance for future research directions. The consortium also aims toward the development of a supportive community of scholars while contributing to the conference goals through interaction with other researchers and participation in conference events. Consortium participants have been invited based on their dissertation proposals, and reflect the wide range of disciplines within HCI research.
